Stock preparation

Pulp is slushed, cleaned and screened before it reaches the machine. Clean, well-screened stock at a steady consistency is where a good sheet starts.

Approach flow

Thick stock is metered into the approach flow and delivered to the headbox. Steady flow here means a steady basis weight on the reel.

Forming

The sheet forms and drains on the wire. The fabric decides drainage, fibre support and how long the wire lasts on the machine.

Press

Press felts carry the sheet through the nips and squeeze the water out. Every point of dryness gained here is steam saved in the dryers.

Dryer

Steam-heated cylinders dry the sheet while the dryer fabric holds it against them. Steam control and fabric permeability set the drying rate.
